Admission $5; Snacks & Beverages Available for Purchase Macon, Georgia's pioneering African American disc jockeys played an invaluable role in the lives of Middle Georgians in the 1950s and 1960s at WBML and WIBB, introducing them to new R&B, soul and blues music. They were radio personalities, local celebrities and valued members of the community; to many listeners, they were like family. These disc jockeys set a standard for entertainment and style that has yet to be reproduced. When Hamp "King Bee" Swain was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 2008, the museum hosted the first Hamp's Hop in his honor, bringing together over a dozen radio personalities who were on the air between the 1950s and 1980s. The response was overwhelming and the "Old School Reunion" has continued. This year, on Friday, Sept. 24, veteran disc jockeys playing classic soul and R&B tunes include Swain, Robert “Mighty Rock” Roberts, “Laughing” Lafayette Haines, Big George Threatt, Alice “Party Doll” Bailey, Harris “Teddy Bear” Walker, Frank Dean Martin, “Jolly” Joe Mason and Bernice “Queen Bee” Cotton. Proceeds benefit the Hall of Fame’s MIKE (Music in Kids’ Education) program which provides live performances and music participation opportunities for youth. Come dance, listen and relive the heyday of R&B radio in Middle Georgia.
